EMMA TAYLOR
Born in Cambridge, U.K.
Emma Taylor creates intricate paper sculptures out of vintage books. With a degree in Art History from UCL, her interest in academic study fed into her creative practice, and she has forged her own style from the two ever since. For Emma, the book's narrative informs her work's subject matter. Repurposing old novels and vintage editions from market stalls and antique stores into sculptures, she divines beautiful 3D models from their pages. These sculptures are miniature worlds which chime with imagination, and bewilder in their levels of detail and intricacy. Steam trains, ships, and increasingly, flora, fauna and trees, burst from their covers, dressed in their thousands with individually-cut strips of text. These artworks always convey a deeper understanding of paper beyond its use as a carrier of stories - they deliver a beautiful reminder to us all: nature is at the heart of it, and she has much to tell.
Emma Taylor's work has been exhibited in renowned fairs and exhibitions across the U.K. and overseas (Cambridge, London, Hong Kong). Two of her sculptures were selected for ING Discerning Eye in 2024, and she also completed a commission for Manchester's Aviva Studios in 2023.
