JOANNE TINKER
SOLO SHOW AUTUMN 2024:
THE ARTIST'S PALETTE
Joanne Tinker’s latest works all repurpose chocolate foil.
Joanne Tinker's artwork could be seen as a snapshot of the current trends in advertising and packaging. Her artistic palette is formed through the utilisation of these everyday materials, and her experience and obsession with these foils and wrappers has born a brand new series of works. Joanne Tinker's fascination for this bright and colourful material began as a passion project, and has since evolved into a formidable and sustainable creative practice. A self-professed ‘magpie’ trained as a silversmith and jewellery artist, Tinker has committed herself to the process of collecting things we would normally throw away and embracing them as treasure.
Organised according to gold adjacents with pink or green accents, these new works lend a fresh, contemporary and abstract feel to 19th century French Chemist Chevreul’s spectrum of shades. They are both a time capsule in colour form, and a portrait of how people view her.
When asked how she picks her colours, she notes: "it depends on what comes in!". Every foil is recycled, given to her by friends and followers from all sources.'
JOANNE TINKER: INGOTS
Ingots' consists of rectangles of wood covered in foil, reusing the off-cuts of shelves from her popular 'Chairs' and 'Goblets' wall installations. A few of the of the individual ingots protrude slightly from the face of the piece. The overall feel of the artwork being somewhere between a chocolate library and a three-dimensional Klimt painting

JOANNE TINKER: COLOUR CHARTS
'Colour Chart' is a variation of Joanne Tinkers ever-so popular 'Chocolate Lover’s Charts' series, this new version is inspired by Chevreul and his discovery that dominant hues bring up contrasts in our field of vision.
We are also presenting another new piece in this series called 'Pie-charts', here sections and triangles of foils have been painstakingly cut and arranged into seemingly random and colourful discs. The overall sense to the piece being beautifully abstract.
