Josh Gluckstein's latest solo show is inspired by the last continent he travelled through before the pandemic – Africa.

Spending one month travelling through Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda reignited his desire to create work about animals, to support animals, and has been an endless source of inspiration for him. Josh spent a precious hour with Gorillas in the misty mountains of Uganda, witnessed lions mid-hunt on the plains of the Serengeti, and watched herds of elephants meander through the Masai Mara, he was captivated by the scenes and wildlife of East Africa and is delighted to bring a collection of his favourite animals to life in his latest solo show.

Josh Gluckstein is a London based wildlife artist. Sustainability is at the heart of his practice, and he uses found and recycled materials to create life-size animal sculptures. Inspired by his travels, Josh seeks to recreate the presence and personality of some of the most majestic animals he has seen in the wild.

In lockdown with limited resources and lots of time to think, Josh began to experiment with recycled cardboard.

The accessibility and versatility of cardboard with its many tones and textures, allows Josh to capture unique details and raw emotion, all whilst creating almost zero waste. Cardboard has now become the fundamental material in josh's practice and depending on the piece, Josh integrates recycled fabric, tissue paper, and faux fur to help bring his animals to life.

2022 is Born Free's 'Year of the Lion' and throughout this year they will be aiming to help halt the devastating decline in Wild Lions and campaign for the welfare of lions exploited in zoos, circuses and as pets. Josh and Woolff gallery are therefore thrilled to be supporting Born Free Foundation, by donating 10% of all sales to their fantastic conservation efforts.
