RUSSELL WEST
SOLO SHOW 2022
Russell West is a unique artist, his work is individual and instantly recognisable. Having exhibited with the Woolff Gallery for a number of years many of you will be familiar with his distinguished dripping paint works.
Over the past few months Russell West has been working on a brand new series of works. He has created beautiful, hand painted boards (in his typical colourful style) illustrating familiar and well known proverbs, these simple sayings seeming SO very relevant in todays world.
This solo show illustrates Russell West's reaction to the world today, and looking back to these ancient proverbs makes great sense on many levels. With thick colourful paint on deep wooden boards, these works are not only inspiring in their nature, but brilliantly lavish to observe and appreciate.
"As an alternative to social media influences, I’ve taken the wise words of our ancestors and transcribed them onto trusted, trodden, Victorian floor boards, in the hope that they may advise and guide us through our everyday endeavours?" RUSSELL WEST
