Susila Bailey-Bond: Dot Paintings

Susila Bailey-Bond's Dot painting series showcases an expert understanding of colour with intricacy and patience. In a world marked by digital interfaces, this work's bitmap-like quality cleverly comments on the current movement towards handcrafted ways of life.

Created from around 1200-1800 individually painted wooden discs (depending on the size of the piece), the paint colours are carefully mixed by Susila Bailey-Bond to resemble sections of the original work by the artists, each disc is placed on a support (either a tiny block, or pin) and carefully arranged to create depth, movement, and present with a three-dimensional relief which gives the sense of form. These artworks clearly resemble the original but have a curious twist and a life of their own.

These relief paintings are all in wooden frames and behind UV70 glass, which limits the reflection of light.
